If you are looking for the best players, formations, tactics, career mode advice, online tips and tricks, and much more for FIFA 12, then you have come to the right place! Listed below is all the information you will need for the game and we’ll walk you through it all.

Introduction
If you are a gamer, then you have heard of the FIFA series. Since its inception in 1993, the game has been a real behemoth in terms of sales and stature. Now with the recognition and critical acclaim to go along with the series, FIFA is without doubt in its healthiest state. FIFA 12 builds on the recent iterations in the series and provides the most accurate football sim ever to be released on a home console.

The main changes to FIFA 12 from the previous entry in the series are the player impact engine and a fresh tactical defending system. Both are, in their own right, rather revolutionary to the aspects of the game they are for. Rehashed animations are thrown away with the impact engine, and now you get a variety of different scenarios, some with hilarious results! Defending has been completely overhauled, and this will be touched upon within this guide.
For a full review of FIFA 12: Click Here
Please keep in mind this guide is a work in progress, check back often for our updates. This game is HUGE and the options ENORMOUS so there is a lot to fill in.

Getting Started
If you are struggling to get to grips with the controls, or are just wondering how to pull off the best skills and tricks, then this section of the guide is for you!
Moving
Just moving around is a very simple procedure. To do this, all you have to do is move the left stick in the direction you want your player to move in. However, just moving around like this is not going to win you matches and you need to modify the movements to have success moving around the pitch and going beyond the opposition. The first thing you need to bring into your arsenal is sprinting. Sprinting is achieved by holding down the RT button whilst moving. This is perfect for when you are trying to get that extra yard on the opposing defender.
Holding down the RT button is not the only option for sprinting, as moving the right stick in the direction you want to go in will also activate a sprinting motion. Yet, this is different because you have less control over the ball and it goes further in front of you. Not perfect when in the centre of the park, but a great way to go past a full back on the wing. Also, by pulling the right stick in the opposite direction you are going, you will make your player do a drastic 180° turn. A good move to pull off if you are running into plenty of traffic. Pushing the right stick to go sideways is also a great way of cutting inside when you are stuck out on the wing.
As you are moving, holding down the LB button will make your movements more slow and precise. It may not seem like the best option, but it is a great way to draw in players before you inject some pace into your movements and go beyond them!
Holding down the LT button will open up a lot of different possibilities for your dribble. If you hold down the LT button and move the right stick in various different motions, then your player will perform a skill. There is a magnitude of skills available (depending on your players level in this field) and it will take time to remember and master them all. A great way for a skilled player to go past a player with style, a trick list is provided further down in this guide.
To trap the ball, you can use one of two methods. Either is just as effective, so it does not matter which one you choose. You can trap the ball by pressing either LB or RT. This a particularly effective move, especially online, as it can make your movements hard to read for the opposition.
Finally, you can do kick-ups with the ball, which can actually help in going past a player! To start the process of kick-ups, hold the LT button down and repeatedly press the RB button. The player will then start juggling the ball. As you are doing this, if you move the left stick in a different direction, then the player will make a quick move while flicking the ball high up in the air. A great way to knock the ball over you oppositions head and going past them!

Passing
Passing in the game can be done via a multitude of different ways. The most basic way to pass the ball is by pressing A. The longer you hold the button down, the further the ball will be passed. This type of basic passing is best utilised in the middle of the park, between defenders or towards a striker that will hold up the ball. You can modify this simple pass into a fancy one by holding down the RB button. This could result in back heel passes, flick passes and even spinning back heel passes!
The Y button is used for through balls. A through ball is an important asset in any strike-force, and that is no different in FIFA 12. It is the perfect type of pass to play if you are trying to get in behind the defense or just trying to release your wingers/full backs into some open space. Just tapping the Y button will play the ball across the ground, but you can add lift to the ball by holding down LB as you press Y. Perfect for knocking the ball over the opposing defensive line. Again, RB can be held down to perform some fancy, modified passes. Just this time they are played in front of the player intended for the ball.
A one-two with another player is done by passing the ball with A whilst having the LB button held down. Once the ball is released by the first player, he will start to make a forward run ready for the ball to be played in front of him. Thus, resulting in the player being able to run onto the ball. Although it is not necessary, the traditional way to complete the one-two is a one touch pass by the second player to put the ball into the path of the player that initiated the attack. This is simply done by tapping the Y button as the ball arrives to the second player. However, even if the second player traps the ball, the first will still be making his run. This means that you can wait a vital couple of seconds before releasing the player into the open from the defense. The one-two is best done on the wings and through the centre of attack.
A long ball pass is done with the X button. Usually done by a player in space down the wing to flight the ball in for the strikers, the long ball/cross is a very effective tool to have in your arsenal, especially if you have imposing players in your squad. It is also a great ball to play up by a goalkeeper/defender to a hold-up striker to set the motion of an attack going. Again, this pass can be modified. Holding down the LB button as you press X will keep the ball up in the air for longer, but with less pace on it. This is ideal for crossing into the box when you have a strong targetman there to get on the end of the ball. Holding down the RB button as you press X will player a low, more faster ball. This is best done when you have a player attacking the near post or you are playing in a winger behind the oppositions defense.

Shooting
Shooting, once you get the hang of it, is one of the less complicated parts to FIFA 12. To take a simple shot, you just have to press the B button. The longer you hold the button down for, the harder the ball will be hit and the higher it will climb. This is perhaps the best choice to use when outside the box and at a difficult angle inside it. To modify the shot, you can hold the LB and RB buttons down as you shoot.
The LB button will chip the ball, which is a good choice when on a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. However, the ball will have a lot less power on it, so it should only be used when the goalkeeper is off his line.
The RB button will put more curve and control into you shot. This is a great choice for when inside the box or when at an angle. The shot will have less power than a regular one, but if you are using a player that can put plenty of curl onto the ball, then it really doesn’t matter about the lack of power.
A dummy shot, which is performed by pressing the A button immediately after B, is a great move to use. Not only can it be used to effectively go past the keeper, but it can be done whilst in the opposition’s half to add another bow to your attacking arsenal.

Return to Top FIFA 12 Ultimate Team Guide

Ultimate Team is without doubt one of the most popular modes in FIFA 12. This mode is so popular that it is not unforeseen to see people spending hundreds of dollars to assemble the best squad possible! Due to this, people are always looking for the best tips on how to get better than the rest, or even just how to start the mode with a flying start.

Getting Started

At the start, you are given a squad full of bronze players. Although they are hardly the best players to use, they are still capable of earning you some much needed coins if you are not willing to part with any cash or you do not have the privilege of having some packs of cards as gifts.

If you had a previous FIFA 11 Ultimate Team, then you are given two packs of twelve players. The players in these packs have varying levels of ability (which are signalled by the colour of the cards: bronze, silver or gold). Also, if you were fortunate enough to purchase a Special Edition of FIFA 12, then you will receive three gold packs (which contain a variety of different consumables, kits etc. and not just players) at the start and a further fifteen packs over the next six months. These can be invaluable at the start, as they give you some good players and opportunities to trade and get some coins into the bank early.

You have a few options when you are ready to play a game. You can either enter a tournament or play in a friendly (both are available online and offline). Entering a tournament would be the wisest choice at the start because you are given a healthy boost of coins in the form of a tournament bonus should you win (plus coins from winning each match). Each tournament has a plethora of different criteria’s that you have to fall under to play. These include having a max team star rating of 2 or having just 3 nationalities in the starting eleven. If you are playing online, just make sure you do not give yourself too big of a disadvantage. For example, if your squad only contains bronze players, then stick to the tournament that only allows bronze players. The last thing you want to do is go up against a side that is packed with talent when all you have is a basic squad!

Card Levels

In Ultimate Team there are clear distinctions for the level of a player in the way of what colour their card is. Below are the different cards you will come across when you are searching for players in FIFA 12

Bronze (up to 64)
Bronze card players are generally average players. These are what you start off with in the beginning and will soon be ushered out of the squad for the higher rated players. However, do not get rid of your bronze players entirely; they can still be effectively used for bronze-only tournaments in the game.

Silver (65-74)
Silver cards signify that the player is good, but not at the very top of the game. Yet, unlike the bronze cards, silver carded players can still get a look in even when you have a full strength side. They can be effective players to use from the bench and are also good for lowering the star rating of the side for any competitions that, for example, require you to be four stars or below.

Gold (75+)
Gold players are the cream of the crop, although there is a significant difference between a 75-rated player and someone like a Wayne Rooney or Xavi! Still, unless you are fortunate to stumble upon the really high rated cards, you will have to make do with players that are rated between 75-83 overall. Yet, this does not mean you cannot create a very good side, with plenty of top players like Diego Milito available to the less fortunate!

Shiny Cards
These cards are available across all levels and are some of the most rare that you can collect. Due to this, their value is generally higher than regular cards in the auction place, although the ‘shininess’ of the card does not give the players a boost in ratings or anything. Still, the shiny cards are, in most cases, used for the better players in the game, so they are worth hunting for.

Black Cards
Black cards are reserved for players that were involved in the team of the week. The special thing about these cards is that they give the players a boost in ratings, making them a better choice than in their regular state. Getting hold of these cards is very difficult though, with them being the rarest of the groups of cards available. If you are lucky enough to get one, then they are worth quite a few coins…especially the Lionel Messi one!

Chemistry

Chemistry within your starting 11 is without doubt the most important aspect to making your team one of the best in FIFA 12. If your chemistry is low, then your squad will not gel together, meaning players will be lethargic in making runs or closing down players. It might not be too much of a problem playing on the lower difficulty settings against the computer, but when you go up against the higher difficulty and online players, then you will be most likely torn to pieces.

So, how do you build chemistry in FIFA 12?

Well, thankfully, there are plenty of different ways in doing so. The first thing you should do is make sure that your players are in their designated places. Although you may have a versatile player, you still have to try and put them in the position stated on their card. So, for example, if a player could play all across the back four, but has LB as his position, then that is where he should play. However, it is possible to collect/purchase a consumable which will allow you to alter the position of a player if need be. Your player’s happiness in their position is signalled by the football boot in the bottom-right on their card. Basically, the lighter, the better!

Preferred formation is also an important part to building on your team’s chemistry. The best thing to do at the start is to settle on a formation for your squad. Once you have done this, you can search for players when trading who prefer the formation you are using. A good tip to use for this is if you have a top player in your squad, but he does not play in the position you want, search for the same player on the auction search who does prefer your formation and offer a trade to the seller. Although the seller may reject a straight swap, it should not be too difficult to entice them to make the swap if you offer something a little extra like a football kit or a bronze-level player. After all, they are getting a free item as a result! The player’s happiness for the formation is shown in the bottom-left corner of their card. Just like the player position, the lighter the box, the better it is.

Nationality can play a big part in getting your chemistry to its maximum. The more players you have from one country, the better they will gel in the squad. It is best at the start of the game to start getting players from one nation. One reason is due to the chemistry, of course, whilst the other is to be eligible for tournaments that only allow you to use players from one country. If you have a top player from a strong nation at the start of the game, then build your squad around him. Any of the top nations such as Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Italy and England have plenty of good players to choose from. If your starting 11 only contains players from one nation and they are all playing in the right positions, then your chemistry will be the maximum 100 out of 100.

Another way to get your chemistry to its maximum is to bring in players that play for one club. This again helps for your players to gel. However, there are fewer players to choose from if you go for this method instead of the nationality one. But, if you just have one or two players from the same club and they are joined by the lines on the squad select menu, then this will give your chemistry a significant boost.

Trading

Trading, as the above chemistry section touched on, is another important part of Ultimate Team. If you want to sign specific players to fit into your squad or want to get some much needed coins for your players, then this is the place to go.

Buying Players
When you begin searching for players, remember to keep in mind everything mentioned in the chemistry section. On the auction search screen, you have plenty of different criteria’s to choose from. You can search for a specific position, the players preferred formation, their level, nationality and their maximum price among other things.

If you have a small budget, then you can comfortably sign gold players ranging from the 75-78 rating range for around 300-350 coins. These players will all do a good job for your squad; just make sure you select a player that has the attributes you want for the position. For example, you will want pace down the wings, whilst you will want a player with good heading and defending skills at the back.

Also, be patient when buying players. It is possible to sign an 80+ player for less than you would expect, with some going for less than 400 coins. Thousands of players are up for sale at any given time, so opportunities will appear constantly for you to grab a bargain. You just have to be patient and search for them!

Another thing to note is that you can add any players you potentially want to purchase to a watch list. This is a good way to not only gauge the general value of a player, but to also give yourself more opportunities to buy a specific player by adding multiple cards of him to the list. Oh, and it is also a good way to keep track of players…obviously!

Selling Players
To sell a player, you first have to put them in the trade pile. Once you have done this, you can list the player up for auction after you have selected a starting price. Although it is not mandatory, you can also add a buy it now price to your player. There is also an auction duration selection you can make, ranging from one hour to three days.

When you are listing a player, be realistic with your pricing! Search for the player you want to sell and see what price he is currently selling for. Once you have done that, base your price around your research.

As has already been said, a buy it now price is not mandatory, but it can be a good way to squeeze an extra few coins out of your player. If you are fortunate to attract a bidding war for your auctioned player, someone might make a panic buy and go with the buy it now option. This could result in them paying over the normal rate and result in you getting the maximum price for the player.

The duration of the auction depends on the calibre of the player you are selling. If you are just getting rid of a run-of-the-mill type player that is always available in the auction place, then it would be best to just have the duration as one hour. If you have a higher rated and rarer player, then it would be best to place them on a longer duration, so more people can take notice and add them to their watch list.

Best Players in FIFA 12

The best players in FIFA are always a hot topic, whether someone is out looking for the best footballers right now or the stars of the future. The following part of this guide will reveal who the best players are as well as, among others, the top prospects and bargains FIFA 12 has to offer. Just remember that these lists are our opinion, but we are sure that you will agree with most of the players mentioned!

Player key:
1. Player Name (Age, Club)
Position/s – Value – Overall Rating

——————————————————————————————
Return to Top Top 10 Best Players in FIFA 12

As the title of this section implies, the following is the top 10 best players in FIFA 12. This top 10 sees a lot of the usual suspects, including plenty of players from what is considered one of the greatest football sides of all time!

1. Lionel Messi (24, Barcelona)
Winger/Striker – £107,500,000 – 94
Who else? The diminutive Argentinean magician has, in recent times, been compared to the greatest to have ever graced the game; with some saying he is, in fact, the greatest. So, it comes with no surprise that the Barcelona star is the best player in the game, rated at an astronomical 94 overall. Still just 24, Messi can play pretty much anywhere outside of a defensive position, although is best suited to the wings or as a striker. It goes without saying that he is a fantastic all-rounder when it comes to attacking attributes.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo (26, Real Madrid)
Winger/Striker – £80,000,000 – 92
There is no denying that Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo is a goal machine. His goal scoring records at both Man United and Real Madrid reflect this, and so does his attributes in FIFA 12. Lightning quick, skilful, physically dominating, the ability to score from anywhere, and a set-piece specialist – Ronaldo does it all. Plus, with the Real Madrid talisman just coming into his prime years, he would be an ideal signing when playing career mode…but it will cost you!

3. Andrés Iniesta (27, Barcelona)
Midfielder/Winger – £45,000,000 – 91
The Spanish international has been a stalwart in the Barcelona side, having rose through the decorated Barcelona youth academy. As of right now, Iniesta is considered one of the key players in what is considered the best team in world football currently. A very versatile player across the midfield, Iniesta can both attack and defend. He is best utilised in the centre of midfield, where his vision, passing, dribbling and movement can be used to full effect.

4. Xavi (31, Barcelona)
Central Midfielder – £55,000,000 – 92
Like the aforementioned Iniesta, Xavi is a product of the Barcelona youth academy and has been a regular figure in the senior squad for over 10 years. Widely considered the best playmaker in world football currently with his radar-like passing, Xavi is an integral part to the vast success Barcelona has enjoyed in recent years. In the FIFA 12 player ratings, he is joint-second with 92 and only behind teammate Lionel Messi. The only reason why he is ranked below Iniesta on this list is his age, meaning he wouldn’t be the best long-term choice when signing a player in career mode.

5. Wayne Rooney (25, Man United)
Striker – £45,000,000 – 90
Since bursting onto the scene at just 16 years of age with Everton, Wayne Rooney has been a figurehead for English football. Now 25 and with a plethora of trophies from playing with Man United behind him, Rooney is widely considered one of the best players in the Premiership. His vision, link-up play and the ability to score from anywhere make him an imposing leader of the frontline for any side.

6. Arjen Robben (27, Bayern Munich)
Winger – £34,000,000 – 90
Although still plagued by injuries that saw his Chelsea career stall somewhat, Arjen Robben has once again established himself as one of the very best players in world football with Bayern Munich. Having been voted footballer of the year in Germany in 2010, Holland international Robben, still just 27, has been playing his best football in the Bundesliga. Known for his direct runs down the wings, Robben is a truly great all-round attacking threat and one that would fit into any side.

7. Iker Casillas (30, Real Madrid)
Goalkeeper – £26,500,000 – 89
Is Iker Casillas the best keeper in the world? Well, the creators of FIFA 12 certainly think so, rating him a vast 89 overall. Captain for both club and country, Casillas has been in the first team for Real Madrid and Spain for over ten years. Considering both are among the best teams in world football, that is no mean feat. Known for his fantastic reflexes and agility, Casillas who, at 30, is still relatively young for a goalkeeper, is the best player in his position at the start of the game.

8. Cesc Fábregas (24, Barcelona)
Central Midfielder – £35,000,000 – 88
Spanish international Cesc Fábregas has finally arrived home. After the subject of a much publicized transfer between Arsenal and Barcelona, Fábregas was granted his wish by the Gunners to return to the club where he spent the majority of his competitive youth playing days. Although he has been around for years, Fábregas is only 24 and still seemingly improving. As well as being a fantastic playmaker, Fábregas also has a keen eye for goal, and this is reflected in his overall 88 rating in FIFA 12.

9. Gerard Piqué (24, Barcelona)
Centre Back – £32,500,000 – 88
Despite never getting a regular position in the Man United side during his tenure in England, Gerard Piqué has flourished in the Barcelona side since his return to the club in 2008. Now with winner’s medals in, among others, the World Cup, Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, La Liga and Premier League, Piqué has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world. Not only prolific in defending, but also an attacking force, the overall 88-rated Spanish international would be a fantastic addition to any side.

10. Nemanja Vidić (29, Man United)
Centre Back – £26,000,000 – 89
Since joining Man United in 2006, Nemanja Vidić has become an integral part in the club’s success. The Serbian international has been named in four of the last five Premier League ‘Team of the Year’ squads as he established a formidable partnership with Rio Ferdinand in the centre of defense. Now considered, at least by FIFA 12, the best defender in United’s squad, the overall 89-rated Vidić is an imposing centre back with fantastic defensive abilities.

Now 25 and with a plethora of trophies from playing with Man United behind him, Rooney is widely considered one of the best players in the Premiership. His vision, link-up play and the ability to score from anywhere make him an imposing leader of the frontline for any side.
Ranked 5th in Best Player list

4. Zlatan Ibrahimović (29, AC Milan)
Striker – £29,000,000 – 88
Sweden’s Zlatan Ibrahimović has been at the top of the game for several years now. This is evidenced in him having played for some of Europe’s premier clubs, including Barcelona, Internazionale, Juventus and AC Milan, his current club, and having commanded some of the biggest transfer fees in the history of football. A classy player with all the tricks, the 29 year old is also a giant physical presence up front, standing at 6ft 5in, which adds another string to his overflowing bow.

5. Carlos Tévez (27, Man City)
Forward – £33,000,000 – 88
Although Carlos Tévez is currently unsettled at Man City, that doesn’t affect his stats and standing in FIFA 12. The diminutive world class frontman is rated an overall 88 and his form in real life reflects this, with him being considered by plenty as the best player last season for Man City, a club full of world class players. Hardworking, skilful and a good finisher, the 27 year old Argentinean would be a quality player for any side.

6. David Villa (29, Barcelona)
Striker – £25,000,000 – 88
A prolific scorer at both club and country level, David Villa is the second highest rated out-and-out striker in FIFA 12 at the start of the game, with an overall 88 rating. The Spanish international was subject to a €40 million move to Barcelona in 2010, and he carried his scintillating form for Valencia with him, culminating in a goal in the 2011 Champions League final. Although known mainly for his predatory instincts in front of goal, Villa is also great at linking up the play and, at 29, still has plenty to offer.

7. Samuel Eto’o (30, Anzhi Makhachkala)
Striker – £27,500,000 – 88
Samuel Eto’o is, currently, the highest paid footballer in the sport. When he moved to Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala in the Summer from Internazionale, he signed a contract reportedly worth €10m a year. So, with such a fact attached to his name, you sort of expect Eto’o to be a pretty good footballer! Pretty good is an understatement, as the Cameroon legend has been at the very top of the game for several years now, winning a plethora of awards individually and for past clubs that he has played for. Known for his pace and lethal finishing, Eto’o is one of the games top players.

8. Alexandre Pato (21, AC Milan)
Striker – £40,500,000 – 85
Still just a youngster, Alexandre Pato has plenty of potential in FIFA 12. Already rated a high 85 overall in the game, the AC Milan regular has a fast growth spurt in career mode, resulting in his stats improving almost immediately. So, not only is his potential through the roof, but he is already good enough to start for practically every team in the game! An all-rounder, the Brazilian international can dribble, pass and, most importantly as a striker, score goals for fun. Although his price tag is high, Pato is one of the best signings you can get in the game.

9. Sergio Agüero (23, Man City)
Striker – £31,000,000 – 86
Having made his name internationally with Athlético Madrid, Sergio Agüero signed for mega spending Man City in the summer for a reported fee of around £35m. The Argentinian is well regarded as one of the most precocious talents in world football and can potentially go on to be ranked alongside Messi and Ronaldo as one of the very best in the sport currently in the coming years. A menacing presence, the 23 year old’s close control, pace and finishing prowess have drawn comparisons to Maradona, arguably the greatest of all time.

10. Robin Van Persie (28, Arsenal)
Striker – £29,000,000 – 86
With the departures of Cesc Fábregas and Samir Nasri over the summer, Robin Van Persie is generally seen as the main man at Arsenal now. Those who created FIFA 12 felt the same, with the 28 year old being rated a lofty 86 overall making him, rightfully, one of the best strikers in the game. The Netherlands international is well-known for his lethal left foot, set-pieces and link-up play.

Return to Top Top 10 Midfielders in FIFA 12

Ranked 3rd in Best Players list

Ranked 4th in Best Players list

Ranked 6th in Best Player list

4. Cesc Fábregas (24, Barcelona)
Central Midfielder – £35,000,000 – 88)
Spanish international Cesc Fábregas has finally arrived home. After the subject of a much publicized transfer between Arsenal and Barcelona, Fábregas was granted his wish by the Gunners to return to the club where he spent the majority of his competitive youth playing days. Although he has been around for years, Fábregas is only 24 and still seemingly improving. As well as being a fantastic playmaker, Fábregas also has a keen eye for goal, and this is reflected in his overall 88 rating in FIFA 12.
Ranked 8th in Best Player list

5. Wesley Sneijder (27, Internazionale)
Attacking Midfielder – £35,000,000 – 88
Having had a brief, but successful time at Real Madrid, Wesley Sneijder joined Serie A giants Internazionale in 2009. An attacking midfielder that is capable of both scoring and setting up goals, the Netherland’s international is also a dead ball specialist, most notably for his free kicks. Just 27 years of age and rated an overall 88, Sneijder is undeniably one of the best midfielders in the game.
To view the player stats for Wesley Sneijder, click here.

6. Luca Modrić (26, Tottenham Hotspur)
Central Midfielder – £33,000,000 – 88
Luca Modrić, the jewel in Tottenham’s crown, was the focus of a summer transfer saga involving Chelsea this year. However, Tottenham stuck to their guns and retained their finest player, and one of the best in the Premier League. The 26 year old Croatian is known for his creativity and vision in the middle of the park, leading to plenty of goals, assists and plaudits. Plus, despite his humble physical presence, Modrić is also known for his tenacity in winning the ball back for the team; another reason why he is rated an overall 88 in this game.

7. Gareth Bale (21, Tottenham Hotspur)
Left Midfielder/Left Back – £42,000,000 – 86
Although he has always been highly touted since his youth days with Southampton, Gareth Bale had a real breakout season last year with Tottenham. With scintillating performances in the Champions League to complement his Premiership form, which resulted in him being voted the PFA Player of the year, the young Welshman has since seen his profile rocket. The speed merchant is seen as more of an attacking commodity these days, although he can still perform a job at left back if needed. Rated 86 overall and starting off at 21 in the game, Bale is one of the best assets that can be attained.

8. Franck Ribéry (28, Bayern Munich)
Left Midfield/Winger – £29,500,000 – 88
There has been plenty of controversy when it comes to Franck Ribéry, but his ranking in the upper echelons of world football is certainly not up for dispute. The 28 year old French winger has taken his career to the next level since joining German mega side Bayern Munich in 2007. The combination of pace, skill, accurate passing and energy is what makes Ribéry the formidable winger that he is in both real life and in FIFA 12.

9. Alexis Sánchez (22, Barcelona)
Winger – £35,000,000 – 86
Recognised in 2011 as one of the worlds top talents when he was voted as the world’s most promising youngster, Alexis Sánchez soon made a dream move to Barcelona in the summer. Now part of an attacking strikeforce that boasts Messi, Villa, Pedro and Iniesta, the 22 year old Chilean winger will have his work cut out getting a regular starting place! However, the talent he has displayed so far suggests he will make a big impact at Barca and an overall 86 rating shows why he is regarded as one of the best youngsters in world football right now.

10. David Silva (25, Man City)
Attacking Midfielder/Winger – £33,000,000 – 87
David Silva, one of the most integral parts to the current Man City squad, which seen them win the FA cup in his first season at the club, built his reputation playing for Valencia, one of the premier teams in the Primera League. The 25 year old Spaniard’s movement, vision and playmaking abilities make him one of the best midfielders in the world. Rated an overall 87 in FIFA 12, Silva seems destined to earn more silverware for Man City in the future.

Return to Top Top 10 Defenders in FIFA 12

Ranked 9th in Best Players list

Ranked 10th in Best Players list

3. Philipp Lahm (27, Bayern Munich)
Left/Right Back – £20,500,000 – 87
Philipp Lahm is an experienced, versatile and world class full back. The German international has rose through the Bayern Munich youth ranks and into the starting line up over the years. Now a vital component for both club and country, being the captain for each of them, the 27 year old Lahm is just entering him prime years. A precise tackler with speed to burn, Lahm is also very adept at attacking making him the all-round full back package.

4. Thiago Silva (27, AC Milan)
Centre Back/Defensive Midfielder – £22,500,000 – 87
Thiago Silva, a Brazilian international who has been with the world-renown AC Milan since 2009, is a versatile player that is proficient in playing at both centre back and in a defensive midfield position. In a league that is generally considered one of the best for defensive football, Silva is arguably the best defender in Serie A. This is thanks to a combination of his defensive prowess and blistering speed, which also sees the Brazilian joining in the attack. At 27 years of age and rated 87 overall, Silva is certainly one of the best players in the game.

5. Mats Hummels (22, Borussia Dortmund)
Centre Back – £25,000,000 – 84
There is no doubting that Mats Hummels is one of the best defensive talents in the world right now. The 22 year old, already an international for Germany, has formed a formidable defensive partnership with fellow precocious talent, Neven Subotić, in the heart of the Borussia Dortmund defense. Considered one of the very best defenders in the Bundesliga, Hummels, rated an overall 84 in the game, is well known for his positioning, composure and accurate tackling.

6. Sergio Ramos (25, Real Madrid)
Right/Left/Centre Back – £19,000,000 – 85
A mainstay in both the Real Madrid and Spanish national side since emerging when he was 18, Sergio Ramos is one of the premier right backs in the world, although he is equally adept at defending across the entire defense. Rated 85 overall, the 25 year old’s strengths include his vision, control, dribbling, pace, strength and leadership skills. An ever-present in the Madrid side, he would be the same for practically every other side in world football.

7. Dani Alves (28, Barcelona)
Right Back – £22,500,000 – 86
Yet another Barcelona player in one of these lists, Dani Alves is the regular right back for the Catalan club. As with pretty much any Brazilian full back, Alves is more of a bombing forward player than a defender. Although he usually supports the attack, the 28 year old is still known for being an accurate tackler, combined with composure and solid marking abilities. Alves is arguably the best player in his position in real life and FIFA 12.

8. John Terry (30, Chelsea)
Centre Back – £16,500,000 – 86
Despite being past his prime, John Terry, captain for both Chelsea and England national side, is still a formidable defender and one of the highest rated in FIFA 12, with an overall 86 rating. Considered one of the very best central defenders between 2004-2009, which culminated in a load of prestigious awards, the 30 year old Terry still has the positioning, heading and tackling abilities to make him one of the best rounded defenders in the game.

9. Pepe (28, Real Madrid)
Centre Back – £16,000,000 – 85
Without a doubt, Pepe is one of the very best central defenders in world football. If you can pretty much single-handedly keep out a rampant Barcelona side for the full 90 minutes, which Pepe did in 2008, then you have to be a little bit special! The 28 year old Portuguese international is a regular starter for Real Madrid and would enhance any side in FIFA 12, with his rating of 85 overall making him a hot commodity.

10. Rio Ferdinand (32, Man United)
Centre Back – £10,500,000 – 87
Although he is 32 and currently struggling to hold down a starting place in the Man United squad, that does not detract from how he is rated on FIFA 12. The England international, who has been with the Red Devils for close to ten years, is rated a very high 87, ranking him overall as one of the best players in the game. However, with him being 32, he wouldn’t be the most wise choice for a long-term

Return to Top Top 10 Goalkeepers in FIFA 12

(Coming soon).
Return to Top Top 15 Wonderkids in FIFA 12

The following is the top 15 wonderkids in FIFA 12. Some you will have heard of, some you might not have. The criteria for this list is that the players must be 22 years old or under and not have appeared in any of the ‘top 10 best’ lists above.

1. Mario Götze (18, Borussia Dortmund)
Attacking Midfielder – £40,500,000 – 84
An attacking and creative force for Borussia Dortmund, it is hard to believe that Mario Götze was just 18 years old when he had his breakthrough season last year. Still just 18 at the start of the game, the German international is not just one of the very best prospects in the game, but one of the best midfielders. Startlingly, he is only going to get better! Pace, technique, passing and a deft ability to score, Götze is, for us, the best prospect in the game.

2. Neymar (19, Santos)
Striker – £44,000,000 – 84
Neymar is a young man that is destined for big things. Having since made his senior debut for Brazilian side Santos at the age of 17, many of the top clubs in Europe have been watching the now-19 year old with a keen interest. Although he is still with Santos, it seems that it will only be a matter of time before he joins one of Europe’s elite. Capped already for Brazil, Neymar is known for his pace, dribbling, technique, eye for goal and flair. If you are in the hunt to add a young forward for your squad, then you cannot go wrong with Neymar.

3. Eden Hazard (20, Lille)
Midfielder/Winger – £32,500,000 – 85
Rated 85 overall, Eden Hazard is widely considered the best player at Lille and one of the best in Ligue 1. Pace and trickery combined with vision make him a superb talent. He has, in some quarters, been mentioned as a little Messi, which signifies just how talented the 20 year old is. The Belgian is already one of the best in the game and with the right nurturing, he could become the very best!

4. Mesut Özil (22, Real Madrid)
Attacking Midfielder – £35,000,000 – 86
Even though he is only 22, Mesut Özil is seen as one of the best players in the Real Madrid side. A staggering opinion, considering how loaded the Madrid side is with talent. In his debut season, the German international picked up the plaudits for having had the most assists in any top European competition. Finesse, vision and a radar-like pass, Özil, rated a very high 86 overall in the game, is one of the best players that can be signed in the game.

5. Nuri Şahin (22, Real Madrid)
Central Midfielder – £28,000,000 – 85
Last season, Nuri Şahin was part of the young Borussia Dortmund squad that won the Bundesliga. Not only was he part of one of the most exciting squads in world football, but the 22 year old was voted the best player in the league. With this success, the Turkish international signed for Real Madrid in a big summer move. Pace, finishing and passing are just some of the top assets of the overall 85 rated player.

6. Lucas (18, São Paulo)
Attacking Midfielder – £31,500,000 – 82
Lucas is one of the hottest properties in Brazilian football right now. Despite just being 18 in FIFA 12, Lucas has already been capped for Brazil and is considered one of Sao Paulo’s top assets. Rated 82 overall already, Lucas, a tricky speedster, is one of the best prospects in the game.

7. Jack Wilshere (19, Arsenal)
Central Midfielder – £30,000,000 – 82
In England, there is always a furore whenever a young English talent rises through the ranks. Sometimes the hype is unjustified, but when it comes to Jack Wilshere, the hype is definitely warranted. Still just 19, the Arsenal man is a fantastic midfielder that has both attacking qualities and tenacity that makes him an asset when defending. He is one of the cover stars on the UK version of FIFA 12, so there is no doubt that his potential will be reached in the game!

8. Ganso (21, Santos)
Attacking Midfielder – £25,000,000 – 83
Already a Brazilian international and a regular starter for top side Santos, Ganso is one of the hottest properties in football. Sadly, injuries have hampered his progress somewhat, but his potential and ability is still there for all to see. Rated 83 overall and just 21 years old, this attacking force would be a great coup for any side.

9. Thomas Müller (21, Bayern Munich)
Midfielder/Striker – £23,000,000 – 83
Versatility is certainly one of Thomas Müller’s top assets. With the ability to play all across the midfield and as a forward, the German, with a high 83 rating overall, would be a wise signing for any side. An ever-present in the Bayern Munich squad, the German international is well known for his goal scoring prowess, highlighted by him being the golden boot winner at the 2010 World Cup.

10. (Javier Pastore (22, Paris Saint-Germain)
Attacking Midfielder – £25,500,000 – 83
Widely expected to sign with a major European side, it came as a shock when Javier Pastore decided to sign with French side Paris St. Germain. However, this is not a slate towards the ability of Pastore, who, at an overall 83 rating in the game, is one of the best midfielders in European football. The 22 year old Argentinian would slot into most starting eleven’s in world football.

11. Christian Eriksen (19, Ajax)
Attacking Midfielder – £24,000,000 – 80
Constantly winning awards for being one of the best prospects in football, it comes as no surprise to see that Christian Eriksen is among this list. The Danish international, still just 19 years old, is a regular starter for Dutch giants Ajax. With Ajax, Eriksen has made his name and at an overall rated 80 in FIFA 12, you suspect his reputation would continue to rapidly improve.

12. Romelu Lukaku (18, Chelsea)
Striker – £17,000,000 – 78
At 18 years old, Romelu Lukaku made his big money move to Chelsea in his quest to continue to build on his glowing reputation. A physical and commanding force, the forward has been compared and considered the heir apparent to teammate Didier Drogba. Although he has a slightly modest 78 rating compared to the majority of the top players in FIFA 12, it would be foolish to look past the potential he possesses.

13. Theo Walcott (22, Arsenal)
Winger/Striker – £18,500,000 – 82
Plagued with injuries and inconsistency, it seems like Theo Walcott has not reached his full potential so far. However, the speed demon is still just 22 and has proven enough to the makers of FIFA 12 to rate him 82 overall. The Arsenal winger, who is equally adept as playing up front, would be a fine addition to any side looking to inject a bit of pace to the squad.

14. Neven Subotić (22, Borussia Dortmund)
Centre Back – £18,000,000 – 82)
Alongside fellow top young defender Mats Hummels, Neven Subotić formed a formidable partnership in the heart of the Borussia Dortmund defense last year, an integral part in the side winning the Bundesliga. Well known for his defensive ability, the Serbian is one of the best young defenders in both world football and in FIFA 12. 22 years old and rated 82 overall, Subotić is a fantastic option for any teams defense.

15. Mamadou Sakho (21, Paris Saint-Germain)
Centre/Left Back – £15,000,000 – 81
Mamadou Sakho, a regular starter in the centre of defense for Paris St. Germain, is considered one of the best defenders in Ligue 1. The 21 year old Frenchman, an imposing defender who can also be deployed at left back, won plenty of plaudits last year, including inclusion in the Ligue 1 team of the year and the winner of the best younger player of the year award. This 81-rated defender would do a top job for any side.
